For more than a decade, Healthy Schools Campaign and partners have been changing the way schools are cleaned—with benefits for students, staff and the environment. Now, HSC is partnering with ISSA to expand their work and broaden their reach.

The HSC is thrilled to announce a five-year partnership with ISSA to promote green cleaning to the education sector. Building on HSC’s 10 years of promoting green cleaning in schools, this work will focus on establishing a vibrant network of school facility managers.

At the heart of this program is the Leadership Council, made up of the top school facility directors in the country. With their expertise and support, they will build a strong peer-to-peer professional network with the goal of engaging thousands of facility directors over five years. They believe this peer-to-peer network will move the needle on how schools are cleaned to protect both student health and the environment.

In 2016, this initiative will include two main components:

Green Clean Schools Leadership Institute: Building on the success of last year’s summit, the Leadership Institute will bring together leading university and K-12 facility operators for a two-day training to build leadership skills that will help them elevate their green cleaning programs to new heights. The Leadership Institute will take place in Ellicott City, MD, (outside Baltimore) on July 28-29, 2016.
Green Clean Schools Forum at ISSA/INTERCLEAN: HSC is working with ISSA to bring hundreds of school facility operators to ISSA/INTERCLEAN North America in Chicago on October 25-28. Attendees will be part of a two-day program designed to guide them through their ISSA/INTERCLEAN experience with an emphasis on green cleaning. The forum includes education workshops on the most pressing topics related to green cleaning in schools and a guided show floor tour where attendees will meet the education and sustainability representatives of participating sponsor companies.
“Over the past decade, we have encouraged schools to make cleaning for health a priority,” says Rochelle Davis, HSC’s President + CEO. “Now we are focused on engaging directly with school facility directors. Our partnership with ISSA allows us to expand the programming we can offer to school facility directors.”

“ISSA is excited about taking our long-standing relationship with Healthy Schools Campaign to the next level for the common goal of promoting cleaner and healthier schools and universities across the nation,” says John Barrett, ISSA’s Executive Director. “It’s also an important step toward fulfilling our brand promise to change the way the world views cleaning.”

In addition, HSC will continue to present a number of webinars featuring award-winning facility operators who will share their green cleaning expertise. HSC is also partnering with the Green Sports Alliance to host a series of green cleaning workshops across the country. ISSA is the Workshop Tour Presenting Sponsor of this program and the first event will take place in Atlanta this spring.

We’re excited to continue building on our green cleaning work and ensure that school environments support student health and wellness. A green cleaning program is about so much more than safe chemicals and proper infection control; a green cleaning program can help students stay healthy and maximize their learning potential.
